Despite horrendous inclement weather and reluctance of the Lakeland Tower to declare VFR (ok, so the ceilings WERE 800 feet), 22 hearty souls defied all the odds and arrived safely at the 2005 RV Weekend at Sun n Fun. Jerry Cornwell was the first arrival - Thursday, no less.  He and his friends were standing in the rain when I drove in on Friday afternoon.  Ed and Tracy would have been the next arrivals, but the field closed just as they arrived so they had to go to Plant City.  Weasel from MS arrived 5:30 pm Friday.  After that, the only people who showed up until 11:50 am Saturday had to drive, taxi or be towed to the site (and no, I'm NOT kidding).

At 11:50 am Saturday  "Team Rotary" arrived in a staccato roar, having received a special VFR clearance on the IFR field.  At 12:10 the IFR beacon was turned out and the rest of the attendees flew in.

All of our speakers were there  - most of whom had to drive to be there.  THANK YOU to Jan Bussell, Mike Berlingham, Blaise Peason and Rob Roy for the wonderful presentations.

A HUGE THANKS  to Sandy Krier and her boyfriend Jeff,  Deborah Pierson, the Early Birds and the EAA teen volunteers  for the tremendous help they gave me, working ALL DAY in the cold wind, without a word of complaint.   Thanks also to Bob Berube of Flight Crafters - they came with a very interesting booth.  Of course, the biggest thanks of all to Sun n Fun for hosting the event and for the door prizes and to Van's Aircraft for the door prizes and for designing the planes that make all this possible.

After all the bad weather, scud, rain, wind and cold, the flight home was beautiful.  10 RVs left the field at about the same time.  The radio was alive with the chatter of happy RV pilots, comparing notes and enjoying the freedom of the skies.  Even the strong headwind was a bonus -it made the flight last longer!!
