Background
Our redrive (I never liked the PSRU acronym) has been in development since January 1998.  The first production version was installed on the airplane, and flight testing began, on July 26, 1999.  Initial results were so positive that we made the 2,200 mile round trip to Oshkosh 99.

The reduction ratio is 2.176 to 1, and the drive reverses the direction of rotation.   A left-hand prop is needed with a tractor installation.  Horsepower handling capability is targeted at 200 hp continuous and up to 300 hp for takeoff.  The length of the drive is 14.625 inches from engine to face of prop flange (approximately 1/8" longer than the Ross drive).  The prop hub is a standard SAE-2..  The first version will be designed for the Mazda 13B (of course), but other versions will follow if there is a demand.

The RD-1A is the 2nd version of the gear drive, which utilizes a single piece prop shaft and prop flange (see photo links below) .  Although some of the photo links, below, will display pictures of the RD-1, only the RD-1A and  RD-1B (with the one piece shaft) are currently in production. Click on the links below for photos and more information on RWS gear drive design process.
