Longest Distance Flown in a Rotary Powered plane

Guests will start arriving on Friday ( or earlier if travel plans/weather require it).  We'll have pizza for dinner Friday; doughnuts and coffee Saturday and Sunday morning; cook out lunch Saturday afternoon; catered BBQ Saturday night. Departure Sunday after breakfast. 

This is an activity for all rotary enthusiasts (any aircraft type). We hope that several rotary powered planes be on display, plus Tracy's RV-8 /20B  "slow build project" , our Renesis powered RV-4.  The shop/hangar will be open for "show and tell".

proving to be a great supplemental tool for pilots looking for a fast local terrain orientation.

How to get there by air: N 29° 48' 49 " W 082° 55'  Unicom 122.9
N/S grass runway 2800 X 70 feet; 1000 ft clear zone at each end.
Jacksonville sectional chart; 15 nautical miles NE of Cross City VOR on the thirty degree radial. NOTE:  A wire fence boarders the EAST side of the strip.

ALERTS:  The strip is 100 ft wide with a 50 foot taxiway down the WEST side.  Due to the fence bordering the EAST side of the strip, airplanes will 1st be parked in the taxi area near our house.  Monitor the radio for details. BACK TAXI on the runway instead of using the taxi way on the West side.  Planes and camping will be in the taxi way. 

Accommodations: Free Camping "under the wing." Floor space and inflatable mattresses available for "floor sleepers". All other accommodations require a car. By car/ from the SOUTH: I-75 N  to Exit 390 – SR 222.   Turn LEFT on SR 222.  Take it until it ends at SR 241. Turn RIGHT on SR 241 to the intersection of SR 232 W.  Turn LEFT on SR 232. (NOTE: SR232 takes a “jog” at SR 241. First you will come to SR 232 E- a right hand turn -  towards Devil’s Millhopper. DO NOT TAKE THE RIGHT  TURN.  Continue straight on SR 241 until you see a LEFT HAND TURN onto SR 232 W).  Follow SR 232 until the paved road ends at Rt 129.  (About 30 miles).  There will be a LARGE dairy farm on your right.  Turn RIGHT/North on SR 129. Go through the town of Bell .  At the 2nd flashing yellow light, turn WEST on CR 340.  Take CR 340 for about 1.5 miles. Turn right on 55th Ave. Take 55th Ave for one mile and turn left on NW 50th St (a dirt road). The road will take you past the airstrip on the right. Turn right on NW 72nd Way . Our house is at the end of NW 72 Way - large gray house on right side. 

By car/From the NORTH:  I-75 South to Exit 423 /OLD Exit 81(RT 47/Ft White/Lake City).  (If coming from Jacksonville, FL take I 95 to  I-10 to I-75 S).  Turn RIGHT onto Rt 47.  You will pass through Ft White after 15 miles.  Continue on Rt 47.  You'll cross over Rt 27. Stay on Rt 47 for a total of 23.8 miles.  You will see a flashing yellow light at the intersection of CR 340.  Turn RIGHT onto CR 340.  Take 340 for 8.3 miles.  You will be at the intersection of CR 340 and Rt 129 (red flashing light).  Go STRAIGHT - stay on CR 340 for approximately 2 more miles. Turn RIGHT on NW 55th Av.  Go 1 mile.  Turn LEFT on NW 50th St.  Go to the end (you will pass the airstrip on the right).  Turn RIGHT on NW 72 Way.  Go to the end - our house is the large gray house on the right side.    The trip from Lake City takes about 45 minutes.

The Legal Stuff: Shady Bend is a PRIVATE airstrip. All flight operations are at the PILOTS RISK.

Watch for ultralights and planes operating without radios.
