The EC3 is the latest version of our engine controller.  It includes ALL the features of the prior EC2 product plus additional enhancements.
bullet

Small footprint  (7 /12 X 4 3/8 X 2 1/4 inches)

bullet

Light weight

bullet

Two small connectors for easy mounting

bullet

Short circuit protection on injector drivers

bullet

Backup controller programming via copy A set up to B

bullet

Includes interface to RWS EM3 Engine Monitor

bullet

The EC3 can be used with peripheral ported engines with separate throttle bodies.  It CANNOT be used with  Powersport style peripheral ported engines (with the throttle body in the rotor housing)

bullet

You provide the crank angle sensor.  All other sensors INCLUDED

In addition, the EC3 provides the following enhancements when compared to the EC2:
bullet

Improved mounting scheme (2 small connectors vs. one large connector, for easy wiring)

bullet

Expanded memory to allow addition of future features, including auto programming and knock sensors

bullet

Features six (6) ignition and six (6) injector drivers per controller. NO need for external staging relay and isolation diodes on 20B installations

bullet

Separate ignition drivers on all coils for 20B engines and 6 cylinder engines (The EC2 used "ignition driver sharing" instead of independent drivers)

Please note the following:
bullet

An EC2 CANNOT BE UPGRADED to an EC3.

bullet

The wiring harness is DIFFERENT for the EC3.  An EC2 wiring harness will NOT work with an EC3 controller.

bullet

We will continue to support the EC2 until component parts become obsolete

We NO LONGER SELL the EC2

Developed specifically for aircraft use. This EFI/ignition controller features automatic altitude compensation, but still gives the pilot manual mixture control.  Please see chart below for engine/coil options. The Turbo version allows up to 50" Hg. manifold pressure. The AC Delco coils mentioned in the "Options" chart are the same ones used on the Chevy LS1 V8. Some people may want to use these because they are lighter then the stock Mazda coils.

Shown above is the back of the EC3.  The unit is housed in a die cast aluminum box and, except for the grounding stud all electrical connections are made via a 37 pin subminiature D connector.   The two black objects at the bottom are manifold absolute  pressure sensors (one for each controller).  These are connected by small vacuum lines to the engine intake manifold. This is a shot of the EC3 internals. There are two electrically separate controllers on the board for redundancy.

This is the EC3 PCM (Pilot Control Module). The panel, shown above, is lased engraved acrylic; 5 X 1 3/4 inches. The  programming and control panel  has a 15 pin D connector on the back side.  This is mounted on the aircraft control panel and is the only thing needed to setup the EC3.  Unlike many other aftermarket automotive EFI controllers, no laptop PC is needed. The small toggle switch in the center of the programming and control panel selects primary or backup controller.

The EC3 interfaces with our engine monitor (the EM3).

Instrument Panel Planning Information

For instrument panel planning purposes, the EC3 panel is 5" wide by 1 3/4" tall.  The panel cutout hole for mounting the panel should be 41/4 " wide by 1 5/16"  tall. This hole is used to pass the connector and circuit board through when mounting the EC3 panel on the surface of the instrument panel. The cutout hole should be centered on the location where you intend to mount the panel.  There are mounting holes at the four corners of the panel as seen in the photo above, and those are used to secure the panel to the instrument panel.   The holes are centered at the corners of a 4 3/4"  X       1 1/2 " rectangle.  Either 4-40 or 6-32 hardware may be used.

Planning to use the EC3?  We get a lot of requests about the number of wires needed for the EC3 and other installation details. If you'd like to get a better idea of how to prepare for and install the EC3, please CLICK HERE OR send a self addressed envelope (capable of holding 12 pages) with $1.20 in postage, and we will send you the complete installation and set up guide for the EC3. NOTE for Canadian and International customers - due to the difficulty in obtaining US stamps in other countries, please email your request for the EC3 booklet  OR send us a self addressed envelope (no stamps required). We'll send you the booklet.
